TLS, one page, 7 x 9, personal letterhead, April 29, 1969. Letter to Basil O’Connor, a member of the Franklin D. Roosevelt Birthday Memorial Committee, regretfully declining his attendance as the Committee honors Hubert H. Humphrey. In part, “Franklin Roosevelt would have been pleased to know he had such men as Hubert Humphrey and Basil O’Connor carrying on the tradition of social reform and human compassion nearly a quarter of a century after his death. Few men know as well as I the energy, the devotion, and the rock-like determination Hubert Humphrey has given to that tradition.” In fine condition, with three horizontal mailing folds and a few light creases.
