Description

Close colleagues, bitter rivals: Spectacular Roosevelt/Taft infantry appointment

Partially printed DS, signed “Theodore Roosevelt” (as President) and “Wm. H. Taft” (as Secretary of War), one page on vellum, 15.5 x 20, December 21, 1904. A commission for George LeR. Brown as Colonel of Infantry. Folds (one through Taft’s signature) and a few mild wrinkles, otherwise crisp, bright, virtually as-new condition. The strength of the signatures is nothing short of remarkable, while the vellum is so supple and unaffected by time that it retains the same subtle pearly finish to which this storied political duo set their pens more than a century ago. In sum: time-travel fresh! LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
