Superlative ALS, one page both sides, 5.5 x 9, January 24, 1884. Anthony writes to Laura Horne Carpenter in Minneapolis. In full: “I return for my pen scratch & enclose the call of our Convention and ask you to be ready to cast your first vote for your Mother & Sister to have the right to vote on equal terms with yourself. We shall publish a pamphlet report of our Convention and shall send a copy to every member of our society. Will you not get as many of your friends old & young as possible to give you their names and $1 each—to send on to us—and thus help us a good Woman Suffrage constituency in Oberlin—as well as aid us financially in carrying forward our great work for the enfranchisement of women! Hoping that you will thus do—I am....” Accompanied by the original mailing envelope bearing the printed legend “National Women’s Suffrage Association” and the names of its officers, including Anthony herself. Scattered blocks of light toning (one touching first letter of signature) and mailing fold touching signature, otherwise fine, clean condition. Outstanding content from this central figure in the history of feminism! LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
