Franking a letter to a well-known historian

Franking signature, “Free, James Madison,” on a 4.75 x 2.75 envelope panel addressed in his hand to the Reverend Samuel Miller in Princeton, New Jersey. Miller (1769–1850) was a Presbyterian minister and professor who wrote a number of historical studies, including Brief Retrospect of the Eighteenth Century. Matted with an engraving and engraved plaque to an overall size of 9.75 x 14. In fine, visually appealing condition, with a hint of subtle soiling and close trimming to bottom and right edges, very slightly touching last letter of signature.
