Description

Roosevelt signed article from Liber Scriptorum

Roosevelt’s four-page article entitled A Shot at a Bull Elk, 8.5 x 12, neatly removed from the first book published by The Authors Club, Liber Scriptorum. Article is Roosevelt’s detailed report of big game hunting in the Rocky Mountains, including problems with Indian hunting bands and his observations on his footwear. “I like to use moccasins in woodland hunting: but this is not practicable is such rocky and mountainous ground…Indians have soles as tough as leather, and they are not subject to the bruises which cripple a white man.” Boldly signed at the conclusion in black ink, “Theodore Roosevelt.” The book was published by the Author's Club of New York, which was formed to assist young writers. To raise funds, each of the club's members contributed a story, poem, essay or the like, which was never to be published elsewhere. Just 251 copies of the first edition were printed. In very fine condition, with a sonnet signed by its author on the reverse of one of the pages. LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
