Signing a congressman’s railroad pass

One among scores of gold-seeking “forty-niners,” Huntington (1821–1900) eventually became a member of the “Big Four” who organized the Central Pacific Railroad in 1861. Partially printed DS, signed “C. P. Huntington,” one page, 5 x 3, February 11, 1871. A complimentary “Going East” pass for the Central Pacific Railroad of California, issued to Hon. Frances E. Schober, M.C., signed by Huntington as vice-president. In very fine, clean condition. R&R COA.
