Mourning the death of his wife

British statesman (1900–1979), uncle of Prince Philip, and Supreme Allied Commander in Southeast Asia who was killed by an IRA bomb. TLS, one page, 5.75 x 8, Ministry of Defence letterhead, March 3, 1960. Mountbatten writes to Buddy Adler. In part: “Thank you so much for your telegram of sympathy, which touched me very much. I am so grateful. It has been a great comfort to receive so many wonderful tributes. Please forgive a typed letter and the delay in replying, but I have received literally thousands of letters and telegrams from all over the world.” Mountbatten has also added the heading and complimentary close in his own hand. Accompanied by the telegram of sympathy mentioned in the letter. Staple holes to letter, otherwise very fine condition. R&R COA.
