Description

Signing a German artist’s colorful tribute

Vibrant original ink and watercolor illustration titled “Mondkonzert für Neil A. Armstrong,” a fanciful rendition of Armstrong in his space suit among a group of Chagall-esque musicians, signed by the artist, Reinhold Metz, and dated October 11, 1972, and signed in black felt tip (on his sleeve), “Neil Armstrong.” Accompanied by a copy of a 1973 letter in which Armstrong’s secretary confirms that Armstrong has personally signed the item and that she is also enclosing a little card (not present) “which Professor Armstrong was pleased to sign for you.” As space collectors are only too aware: not any more! Unobtrusive bisecting folds (one touching “A” of signature), otherwise fine condition. A most unusual format for the pioneering moonwalker that certainly ranks among the most eye-catching items he ever signed! COA Scott Cornish and R&R COA.
