Description

Eastman writes from his twilight

Inventor and industrialist who invented a dry-plate process of photographic film development, flexible film, a box camera, and a process for color photography. In 1932, he committed suicide by a single gunshot to the heart, leaving a suicide note that read, “My work is done. Why wait?” TLS signed “Geo. Eastman,” one page, 8 x 9.5, Office of George Eastman letterhead, July 29, 1930. Letter to a female friend in Maine. In part, “On my return from a two months’ visit to the Pacific Coast I find your letter…I am very glad to hear from you and I trust that you are well. Ever since the first of the year I have been rather under the mark; nothing serious but feeling my age.” In fine condition, with intersecting folds, one through a single letter of signature.
