Massachusetts lawyer (1731–1814) who served as one of the prosecutors of British soldiers during the Boston Massacre trial; he later signed the Declaration of Independence. Partially printed DS, signed “R. Paine,” one page, 7.5 x 6.75, January 7, 1767. A legal document ordering the Sheriff of Worcester County [Massachusetts] to “Attach the Goods or Estate of Erasmus Babbitt of Sturbridge … to the value of one hundred & thirty pounds.” In good condition, with pinholes and chips along folds (one with near-complete separation), toning, and soiling.
