War-dated DS as president, one page, 14.5 x 19, May 20, 1864. President Lincoln appoints Henry E. Maynadier to the rank of “Major in the twelfth regiment of Infantry in the service of the United States.” Signed at the conclusion in black ink “Abraham Lincoln,” and countersigned by Secretary of War Edwin M. Stanton. In very good condition, with handwritten portions of document fairly light, but still legible, scattered mild staining and previous intersecting storage folds.
