British military officer and founder of the world scouting movement (1857–1941). TLS signed “Robert Baden Powell,” one page, 8 x 10, Boy Scouts Association letterhead, July 1, 1927. Powell writes to an unnamed gentleman. In full: “Thank you so much for letting me see the enclosed cutting which is very interesting. The anonymous writer on the origin of the Movement is evidently not fully informed on the subject and some of his statements about my friend, Mr. Ernest Thompson Seton, are not correct in detail. I am glad to hear the Mr. Thompson Seton is the real originator of the Boy Scouts, since seven other candidates for this honour have been in the field, and really it doesn’t matter who invented it so long as the Movement is helping the boys.” In fine condition, with a hint of mild toning, staple holes and a few wrinkles, and mounting remnant to left margin. R&R COA.
