German mathematician and physicist (1882–1970) who won the 1954 Nobel Prize in Physics for his work in quantum mechanics; it was to him that Einstein made the famous remark, “God does not play dice with the universe.” TLS signed “M. Born,” one page, 8 x 10, July 15, 1958. Born writes to Professor Sam Goudsmit at MIT. In part: “The other day I received the First Annual Report of the Physical Science Study Committee and volumes 1 and 2 of the preliminary edition…. I think that your project to modernise [sic] the teaching of physics corresponds to an urgent need of our time…. I cannot read the whole text, but if you would direct my attention to special pages where you would like to have my opinion I shall be very pleased to give it.” In fine condition, with a few wrinkles and tiny holes and separations along folds, well away from any text.
