Terrific autograph album from the administration of Ulysses S. Grant, containing approximately 147 signatures of the President, cabinet members, congressmen and senators, and military officers, contained in a later custom binding, 6 x 9.25, circa 1877. All of the pages are single-sided, nearly all contain multiple signatures, and many of the signers have added 1877 dates and/or their official position. Among the more prominent signers: U. S. Grant, Secretary of State Hamilton Fish, Secretary of War J. D. Cameron, Secretary of War Geo. W. McCrary (twice), Secretary of the Navy Geo. M. Robeson, Secretary of the Navy R. W. Thompson, Postmaster General D. M. Key, Postmaster General Jas. N. Tyner, Attorney General Alphonso Taft, Attorney General Chas. Davis, Secretary of the Interior Z[achariah] Chandler (twice), Secretary of the Interior C[arl] Schurz (twice), General P[hilip] H. Sheridan, Secretary of War Wm. W. Belknap (only cabinet member ever impeached by the House of Representatives), John Sherman (younger brother of William T. Sherman and Secretary of State under McKinley; twice), J. B. Gordon, John A. Logan, H[annibal] Hamlin, Roscoe Conkling, Simon Cameron, R. B. Hayes, and J[ames] G. Blaine. In very good to fine condition, with soiling and staining to first page (containing Grant and Fish), scattered light foxing and dampstaining, and a few brushes, the majority of the signatures remaining clean and dark.
