Army captain (1834–1898) who served in Custer’s 7th Cavalry as commander of Company H at the time of the massacre at Little Big Horn. Benteen ignored direct orders to rush to Custer’s aid, prompting Custer’s widow to place the blame for her husband’s death on Benteen’s shoulders. DS, signed twice “F. W. A requisition for winter clothing and equipment for Company H of the 7th Cavalry, stationed at Fort Rice, Dakota Territory, including trousers, shirts, drawers, gloves, boots, blankets, and more. Below the requisition, Benteen also signs the receipt for the items, adding his rank. A partial sheet that includes additional items has been attached at the top edge. In fine condition, with folds (small edge separations), a touch of subtle soiling, and mild handling wear, the signatures remaining clear and completely unaffected.
