Soldier and explorer (1770–1838) who, with Meriwether Lewis, undertook a two-year expedition in 1804 to discover a navigable route to the Pacific Ocean, in the process exploring and later describing much of the course along the Missouri River. Scarce manuscript DS, signed “W. Clark Lt.,” one page, 7.5 x 4.5, May 30, 1794. A document issued to “Greenville Contractor” ordering “Provision return for five Chickasaw Indians, for one day … rations commencing and including the 30th May 1794….
