TLS signed “T. Roosevelt,” one page, 8.5 x 11, Kansas City Star letterhead, November 19, 1918. Roosevelt writes to F. Frank Hanley, former Indiana governor and unsuccessful Prohibition candidate in the 1916 presidential election. In full: “I am very sorry, but I never do give that kind of letter of introduction. If I should do it in one case, I should have to do it in innumerable others. With very deep regret….” Accompanied by a pencil-signed carbon copy of Hanley’s original request to Roosevelt. In good condition, with allover toning, chips to right edge (well away from text and easily matted out), pinholes, and pencil notations, including one directly under signature, which is just a shade light, yet remains clear and distinct. COA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
