Eminent and prolific Soviet composer (1891–1953) best known for his colorful, rhythmically vigorous works, including symphonies, operas, and much music for keyboard and chamber ensembles. Printed score for his Ballade for cello and piano (Moscow, 1936), 9 x 12, 19 pages plus separate cello part, signed and inscribed on the front cover, “To Mrs. R. Pretzfeld, Kind regards from Serge Prokofieff, Moscow, May 2, 1938.” Accompanied by a period newspaper clipping. In good condition, with covers detached, chipped, toned, and soiled, the inscription and signature nonetheless remaining clear and unaffected. R&R COA.
