Associate justice of the US Supreme Court, 1916–39. Brandeis was known for his devotion to free speech and was called “The People’s Attorney.” ALS, one page, 6 x 7, personal letterhead, May 24, 1940. Private letter to Carl Alpert. In part, “Nothing may be said for publication. But I am glad of what you are doing. The men’s organization should be made as worthy as Hadassah.” Accompanied by the original mailing envelope, addressed in Brandeis’ hand. In fine condition. R&R COA.
