Jefferson and Madison sign a ship’s papers just days before Jefferson’s 1807 State of the Union Address warning of British naval aggression

Partial DS, signed “Th: Jefferson” and “James Madison,” one page on vellum, 10.25 x 6.75, October 23, 1807. A segment of a partially printed ship’s papers, signed by Jefferson as President and Madison as Secretary of State. The document retains its embossed paper seal at lower left, and the reverse bears the contemporary ink notation, “Mediterranean pass.” In good condition, with folds (one through Madison’s signature), wrinkling, light soiling, irregular adhesion to first name of Madison’s signature, and Jefferson’s signature rather light but fully visible.
