Man of measure: Washington surveys a tract of land “granted by the State of Virginia”

Unsigned, boldly penned manuscript document in Washington’s hand, consisting of approximately 110 words on an irregular 9 x 4.25 segment clipped from a survey, no date [1786 or later]. The document reads, in part: “Followeth to the said sugar trees … thence to two sugar trees corner to thes’d survey … thence to the beginning containing one thousand acres which tract of land was granted by the State of Virginia unto David Kidd & his heirs for ever by Patent bearing date the 29th day of October 1786 who sold & conveyed the same unto Robert Brown Jameson by whom & Penelope his wife the same was sold & conveyed unto him the said James Welch his heirs & assigns forever….” In very good, bright, visually appealing condition, with a few small separations, thin spots and holes to blank portions which have been stabilized by archival reinforcement to reverse.
