Description

Disney gives tongue-in-cheek comfort to his laid-up musical supervisor: “I have lined up Koussevitzky, Stravinski, Stokowski and Fred Waring to take care of your work while you’re gone”

TLS signed “Walt,” one page, 7.25 x 10.5, personal letterhead, June 12, 1946. Letter to Disney writer and producer Ken Darby. In full, “Just returned to the studio from location to learn that a virus bug has you down, but they tell me you are definitely on the mend and the doctor recommends that you lay off for a while. I recommend that you do likewise -- you’ve been hitting the ball pretty hard what with your radio show and studio work, so for Gosh sakes, take it easy! Don’t worry about anything here and while we miss you we don’t want anything around here interfering with your rest and recovery. I hope it won’t be long before we have your smiling, happy face around the joint again. With my best wishes and appreciation for your efforts here.” Postscript at bottom reads, “I have lined up Koussevitzky, Stravinski, Stokowski and Fred Waring to take care of your work while you’re gone.” Darby was a writer, production supervisor and musical advisor at Walt Disney Studios. At the time of this letter he was working on the Disney film Make Mine Music. Darby contributed Blue Bayou and Casey At The Bat musical sequences to the film. In fine condition, with two punch holes to top edge, three punch holes to left edge and two horizontal mailing folds. PSA/DNA COA and R&R COA.
