Still mourning the loss of her husband, Wilder sends a thank you note to a Walnut Creek farm, “Since Mr. Wilder’s death I am living alone in the old farm home…I have been very well though lonely for Mr. Wilder.”

She authored the series of historical fiction books for children based on her childhood in a pioneer family. The most well-known of her books is Little House on the Prairie. ALS, one page, 6.25 x 8.25, September 5, 1950. Letter of thanks to the Diablo Fruit Farm. In full, “Thank you so much for the delicious pears and the kind thought that prompted you to send them. Since Mr. Wilder’s death I am living alone in the old farm home. Our daughter, Rose Wilder Lane, visited me in July, but has returned to her home in Connecticut. I have been very well though lonely for Mr. Wilder. Hoping you are all well and thanking you again.” Accompanied by the original mailing envelope, addressed in Wilder’s hand, and signed on the reverse of the envelope, “Mrs. A. J. Wilder, Mansfield, Missouri.” In very fine condition, with a bisecting horizontal mailing fold and a postal cancellation to signature on envelope. R&R COA.
