Kube served as Gauleiter of the Ostmark and Kurmark, president of Brandenburg Berlin and Posen West Prussia, and General Commissioner of White Russia. Under his administration, many Jews were rounded up and executed and the area around Minsk was declared “Jew free.” His ruthlessness and cruelty eventually aroused the ire of the Soviets and in 1943 he was murdered by a group of Russian partisans; Mutschmann was the governor of Saxony and reportedly murdered by the Russians in 1948.
