Chamberlain writes to a Mrs. Ellissen. in part: “I should like to say personally … how much I appreciated the kind thought which prompted you to copy the “River Scene with Boats” of Jan van de Cappelle for me. You asked in your letter that, should it not be possible for your picture to be hung on my walls, it should be returned to you. I had hoped to be able to find a place for it; but … I am very much afraid that it will not after all be possible to do so.” Chamberlain makes a handwritten at the end of the typed text: “The fact is that I am already rather overcrowded with pictures.” In fine condition, with usual mailing folds and a subtle touch of soiling.
