TLS in German, signed “E. Rommel” in soft black pencil, one page, 8.25 x 12, January 4, 1941. Rommel writes to Herr Gemeinder. In part (translated): “Aldinger has gone on furlough in the meantime and you may possibly meet him in the next few weeks. I am glad to have him on my staff and due to his ability and diligence, the history of the Division was finished by Christmas. For obvious reasons it can only be distributed by Command Staff. Oberlieutenant Tschimpke wrote an article about the Ghost Division without submitting the original to me. Consequently differences have occurred in the book that need correction, especially the story about the flares against tanks and the death of my Adjutant.” Under Rommel’s command, the Seventh Panzer Division, better known as the “Ghost Division,” proved devastatingly effective during the invasion of France and the low countries in 1940. In fine condition, with mild toning, light scattered soiling, a few tiny edge chips, and paperclip stain to top margin. COA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
