Description

Taft gives a dam: Original 1910 speech typescript with handwritten corrections

Annotated partial typescript of a speech given by Taft as president, titled “Address of President Taft on the Occasion of the Opening of the Ohio River Dam at Cincinnati, Ohio,” 8 x 10.5, ten pages, September 21, 1910. Taft has emended his speech, which is full of boosterism for his home state (“I welcome this opportunity to meet old friends and to renew old associations, for here, after my official duties are discharged at Washington, I expect to return and to spend the rest of my life”), with several handwritten crossouts and additions. The pages present are as follows: 1, 2 (two slightly different versions), 3 (two different versions), 4, 7, 8, 11, and 15. In very good condition, with scattered soiling and edge toning, and rust stain from paperclip to first page. COA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
