Description

Frost’s Masque of Mercy

Signed limited edition (#104/751) book: A Masque of Mercy. NY: Henry Holt & Co., 1947. Hardcover with slipcase, 7.25 x 10, 46 pages. Signed “Robert Frost” in fountain pen on the limitations page. In fine condition, with wear and cracks to slipcase. A Masque of Reason, published in 1945 is a blank-verse play concerning Job's asking God for an explanation of the troubles inflicted upon him. Though it marked a playful departure for the poet, many readers were left unsure of Frost's intentions. In 1947, A Masque of Mercy, Frost’s second blank-verse play after A Masque of Reason (1945) similarly involves biblical characters in a discussion of God's justice and relations with mankind. COA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
