American football coach. He was an assistant coach at Georgetown University, Michigan State College, and Fordham University. In 1941, after his success as head coach at Boston College he was made athletic director and head coach at Notre Dame, his alma mater. In the 13 years that he coached Notre Dame, his teams won 107 games, lost 13, and tied 9. TLS signed “F. Leahy,” one page, 8.5 x 11, University of Notre Dame letterhead, October 26, 1943. A letter to Jack Moberg. In part: “In answer to your recent letter, I regret to inform you that the Navy game is a sell-out and has been for quite some time. Had I heard from you sooner, I would have been only too happy to comply with your request, but my personal allotment has been exhausted for several days.” Accompanied by the original mailing envelope.
