TLS as president, one page, 6 x 7.75, The White House, Washington letterhead, February 18, 1960. In part: “George Murphy tells me that you were extremely helpful to him in writing the script for the closed circuit cross-country Republican dinners held on January twenty-seventh. For all you have done in furthering the principles and policies in which I am sure we both believe, I am personally most grateful.” Double-matted and framed to an overall size of 11 x 12.5. In fine condition, with a small burn mark near the top border. An American dancer, actor and politician, George Murphy was the president of the Screen Actors Guild from 1944 to 1946. He was a vice president of Desilu Studios and of the Technicolor Corporation. He was director of entertainment for presidential inaugurations in 1952, 1956, and 1960. In the 1950s, Murphy entered politics as chairman of the California Republican State Central Committee. In 1964 he was elected to the United States Senate. COA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
