In full, “I am thankful for the obliging invitation of the Citizens of Springfield to attend the celebration of the 200th Anniversary of the Settlement of that Town, on Wednesday next. I regret that the detention incidental to the discharge of public duties here will deprive me of the pleasures of joining my fellow citizens at Springfield on this occasion. In compliance with your request I submit the following sentiment, as believing it congenial with the spirit of the celebration. I am with great respect, Dear Sir, your friend and colleague.” In fine condition, with light mailing folds, a few slight fold separations and a bit of light toning.
