Great vintage 16 x 12 photo of the smiling Gable shaking hands with smiling Pat Flaherty, winner of the 1956 Indianapolis 500, who is seated in his race car. Three other men, presumably Flaherty’s team, look on. Signed and inscribed in fountain pen “To Bud from Clark Gable.” Also signed by Pat Flaherty, adding “#59.” The photograph is matted and framed to an overall size of 25 x 20. In fine condition. Reportedly, Clark Gable loved auto racing so much that he later said that he would have done the racing film “To Please a Lady” for free. The photographer’s stamp on the reverse, “Bud Williams Photos Union City, Ind.” is visible in the back through a custom cut-out. In fine condition. Bud Williams is a renowned racing photographer. The Union City, Indiana native could be found at Midget, Sprint and Champ Car races around the country, and always with his trusty “Speed Graphic” camera. Ever present at “The Big Show,” Williams was there for this terrific shot. Williams was the Official Photographer of the AAA for several years. Interestingly, Gable’s son, John Clark Gable, is a race car driver/enthusiast. COA PSA/DNA and R&R COA. Oversized.
