Lot of five items includes: three ALsS, a large, bold signature mounted to a slightly larger card, and an unsigned sepia 2.25 x 3.25 portrait of Field in younger years. The letters were written between March of 1870 and November 1877. The 1877 letter serves as an introduction for his son, Edward, requesting that the recipient try to make his visit more pleasant; the 1870 is a request for Telegraph bills introduced by Senators Fenton and Sumner; the 1871 letter reads, in part: “Her Majesty’s High Commissioners are to arrive with me at Delmonico’s on the 23rd at 5 o’clock and have a reception at my house from 9 to 12. It will give me great pleasure if you can arrange to be present.” Accompanied by a book portrait of Field. In overall fine condition, with expected toning, adhesive residue to the reverse of one letter and a pencil notation under Field’s image. R&R COA.
