Not yet famous, the thirty-year-old Robinson responds to a biographical inquiry: “I am guilty of two small books.... At present I am a clerk in the office of Harvard College”

American poet who won the Pulitzer Prize three times within a single decade, a distinction that remains unmatched. ALS, one page, 5.25 x 6.25, Harvard University letterhead, June 16, 1899. In full: “In reply to your letter of the thirteenth I will say that I was born at Head Tide, Maine, on the twenty-second of December, 1869, and that I am guilty of two small books: ‘The Torrent and the Night Before,’ 1896, and ‘The Children of the Night,’ 1897. At present I am a clerk in the office of Harvard College. Trusting this will give you all the information you wish.” In fine condition, with folds (one with small edge separation), small mounting remnant to one corner, and small losses to two corners, well away from any writing.
