Description

Busy William Carlos Williams makes no promises regarding a translation: “Did I comply with all requests and promises I should be swamped even more than I am”

Physician who became a Pulitzer Prize–winning poet and one of the most influential figures of twentieth-century American literature. ALS signed “W. C. Williams,” one page on the correspondence side of a 5.5 x 3.25 postal card, no date [postmarked June 5, 1941]. A letter to editor Sanders Duncan of the literary journal Experimental Review. In part: “I have no translations of Calas’ poems on hand at the moment to give you. Should I succeed in doing one or two more during the summer & you are still interested I’d be delighted to have you use one. It is purely a question of time with me. Did I comply with all requests and appeals I should be swamped even more than I am at present.” In fine condition, with mild even toning and a few unobtrusive traces of postal ink. R&R COA.
