Jazz violinist who is considered one of jazz music's preeminent violinists of the swing era. His first recordings were in the 1920s but it was not until 1936 that he had his breakthrough. Leading a quintet at the Onyx Club with trumpeter Jonah Jones, the group was a huge hit on 52nd Street for several years. He was inducted into the Big Band and Jazz Hall of Fame in 1994.
