Mother Cabrini was born in Sant’Angelo, Italy in 1850. In 1880, she founded the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart, an order originally formed for the instruction of poor children. She immigrated to New York in 1889 and became a citizen in 1909, the year she signed this check. The nun founded schools, orphanages, free clinics and hospitals throughout the U.S. and Latin America. Four miracles were attributed to her from the time she died in 1917 until she was canonized in 1946, becoming the first American saint. Check, 6.25 x 2.75, filled out in another hand and signed by Cabrini, payable to the Farmers & Merchants National Bank for $1000.00, April 3, 1907. In very good condition, with a couple vertical folds, scattered creasing, expected stamps and holes and a red cancellation signature touching small portion of signature.
