Can’t get a better endorsement anywhere! Houdini himself vouches for a potential member of the Society of American Musicians

DS, two pages both sides, 5.5 x 8.5, December 17, 1917. Application form for membership into the Society of American Musicians. Document features the red seal of the Society and the motto “Magic-Unity-Might” on the front cover. Document has been filled out by perspective member Maurice Kains. He provides various personal details, reveals that his stage name is Ralph Stanley, “If I ever become a professional,” and he defines himself as an amateur inventor of magical effects. Kains signs the third page and beneath that two members of the Society have signed, vouching that the applicant is worthy of membership, First signature is “Harry Houdini,” and the second signature is that of Oscar S. Teale, a magician himself who performed under the stage name of Ottilidio and became a close friend of Houdini and was an honorary pallbearer at his funeral.
