Saxophonist, band leader, and composer whose brilliant improvisatory skills and experimental spirit made him one of the most influential and highly regarded musicians in the history of jazz. After playing tenor and soprano sax with Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis and Thelonious Monk, he led his own groups and made such classic recordings as Giant Steps, My Favorite Things, and A Love Supreme. He died of liver cancer in 1967 at the age of forty-one. Unsigned music manuscript in black ink on three preprinted sheet of staff paper, 17 x 12.5, apparently for several instrumental parts, including violins, trumpets, trombones and drums, or a piece titled “Now & Then.” The manuscript consists of approximately one hundred measures in cut time, further bearing the notations “A” at the top of one page and “Bosy” at the top of a second page. The verso bears Coltrane’s ink notations on the reverse reading “Lauch,” “Launch,” and “The Evauncel,” as well as the Coltrane estate’s “2005 Jowcol Music” copyright ink stamp.
