Parris, “Marshall of the United States for the District of Maine.” Boldly signed at the conclusion in black ink by Tyler, and countersigned by his acting Secretary of State. Parris was elected to the Twenty-sixth Congress and served from May 29, 1838, to March 3, 1841, and was unsuccessful candidate for renomination in 1840. He was a member of the State senate in 1842 and 1843, part of the time serving as president pro tempore and as Acting Governor of the State and the United States marshal for the district of Maine 1844-1848. Matted and framed, without the glass, to an overall size of 18.25 x 13.
