Description

Your pick of pugilists: Seventeen vintage boxing signatures from the 1920s–1950s

Lot of seventeen vintage inscriptions and signatures on white 5 x 3 pages, most dated by the signer, as follows: Joey Maxim (1953); Tommy Gibbons (1923); Gene Fullmer (1957), Billy Conn (uninscribed pencil signature), Henry Armstrong (1944), Ezzard Charles (1949), Young Corbett III (1938), Archie Moore (1952), Mickey Walker (1932), Gene Tunney (who adds, “My, but the weather is stifling in New York today—two days after the birth of my son”), two additional examples from Tunney ( one dated 1938), Primo Carnera (1930), Tony Galento (1944), Max Baer (1933), and Jack Dempsey (two, 1931 and 1933). All bear typed collector’s notations, several of which provide information on the place and/or event at which the signature was obtained. A fantastic instant collection! In fine condition, with a few minor brushes to inscriptions, typed notations near or touching the writing in a few instances, and binding holes and a few small pieces of tape to edges or corners of each page, not affecting any writing. COA Steve Grad/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
