American sculptor of Polish extraction. In 1948, after earning acclaim for his penetrating portrait sculptures, Ziolkowski embarked on his magnum opus, the Crazy Horse monument in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Though the sculptor died in 1982, work on the monument continues. When completed, it will be the largest sculpture in the world, at 641 feet in length; the head alone will be large enough to accommodate all four heads on Mt. Rushmore. Scarce vintage illustrated biographical booklet, 5.5 x 8.5, signed in blue ink on the cover beneath an image of Ziolkowski’s model for the monument. In fine condition, with just a touch of edge wear.
