President and theatre critic, “If you will permit me to do so, may I not suggest that it would be much best not to include any person now living?”

TLS as president, one page, 7 x 9, White House letterhead, August 22, 1914. Letter to the Shubert Theatre in Minneapolis. In full, “I am very much complimented that you should wish to include me among the historical playlet which you are planning, but I hope that you will excuse me. If you will permit me to do so, may I not suggest that it would be much best not to include any person now living?” Light overall toning, bisecting horizontal mailing fold and a couple creases, otherwise fine condition.
