Description

Bryan expresses his sorrow upon the death of a friend’s son: “...Wondering what programs he was working with...his lecture on immortality and now he has gone to test immortality.”

Three-time Democratic candidate for president, he was a Nebraska lawyer, orator and the editor of The Commoner. ALS signed “W.J. Bryan,” one page both sides, 8.5 x 11, The Commoner letterhead, April 5. A letter to a friend, regarding the death of his friend’s son. In part: “…But must drop you a line to say how disturbed we all are. We felt that we knew him better than we know most of our friends and his high ideals drew us to him. We were speaking of him this morning and wondering what programs he was working with…his lecture on immortality and now he has gone to test immortality. Sad that one so young and full of promise should be called away so suddenly. We shall miss his gentle face when we visit the coast - and we beg to share the sorrow that his death brings to you and your family…” Accompanied by a two page ALS from Mary B. Bryan, his wife, on the same subject, adding her personal thoughts on the tragedy. In fine condition, with usual folds, a vertical fold touching one letter of the signature. R&R COA. R&R COA.
