America the Beautiful author pleads with a Boston newspaper to publicize a visit from a fellow poet “of much distinction worthy of a Transcript welcome.”

Educator and poet who wrote America the Beautiful. ALS, one page, 5.5 x 8.5, Wellesley College letterhead, November 21, 1917. In part: “Can’t you find space in your Saturday Transcript for these few words from Professor Viola D. Scudder of our English faculty? Helen Gray Cone is a poet of much distinction…a guest worthy of a Transcript welcome.” In fine condition, with usual letter folds. R&R COA.
