Description

Uncommon letter from a signer of the Constitution

Signer of the U.S. Constitution from North Carolina who was later appointed the first Governor of Tennessee by George Washington. LS, boldly signed “Wm. Blount,” one page, 7.75 x 10, January 17, 1795. Blount, as Governor, writes to Colonel Davis Henley regarding a military personnel matter. In full: “I have already forwarded to your office a copy of my order to Captain John Beaird of the 11th December. I now inclose a copy of his report containing his reasons for enrolling a greater number of men than by that order authorized. I am convinced his motives were good but it is not with me to determine whether the additional number over and above that which my order authorized are to be paid or not.” In very good condition, with toning, separations and tiny losses at folds with old repairs on reverse (some show-through), and light wrinkling and soiling. R&R COA.
