Description

Unsigned wood engraving, 14 x 10.25, titled The Army of the Potomac: A Sharp-Shooter on Picket Duty, from Harper’s Weekly, November 15, 1862. Though best known today for his evocative paintings and watercolors, Homer first came to widespread prominence as an illustrator. His engravings for Harper’s and other periodicals, featuring military and political subjects, genre scenes, and landscapes, are now prized by collectors. Triple matted and framed to an overall size of 23.5 x 19. In fine condition, with mild even toning. R&R COA.
