Description

Walter Huston remembers “The old days in Vaudeville . . . when ‘hot dogs’ & sandwiches at the free lunch counter tasted better than banquets now.”

Beloved American actor who won an Academy Award for his role in Treasure of the Sierra Madre, directed by his son, John. Interesting questionnaire, 1 page, 8.5 x 11, filled out and signed (and further initialed) in pencil, no date [but ca. 1932]. Huston answers questions about his life and career for the magazine American Mercury. Under the category Early Life, for example, he notes, “Clerk in store and civil engineering.” Under Talkies, he lists his first film, Gentlemen of the Press, and several others, and notes that he “just finished Rain for United Artists.” Under Hobbies he lists “Golf & yachting,” and under “Incidents Worth Repeating,” he writes, “The old days in Vaudeville when ‘hot dogs’ & sandwiches at the free lunch counter tasted better than banquets now. Pictures are nice to work in, but I still love the legitimate stage best, with the noisy audience out front rather than the unseen with movies.” In very good condition, with light edge wear, creases and wrinkles (one touching signature), and scattered spotting. R&R COA.
