Lady Churchill pokes fun at her own clan: “I like to think of you returning to your lovely house...released from the exhausting Churchill family”

After her marriage, during World War I, Lady Churchill organized canteens for munitions workers. During World War II she was Chairman of the Red Cross Aid to Russia Fund, the President of the Young Women's Christian Association War Time Appeal and the Chairman of Fulmer Chase Maternity Hospital for Wives of Junior Officers. The Clementine Churchill Hospital in Harrow, Middlesex, is named after her. In 1965 Lady Churchill was created a life peer as Baroness Spencer-Churchill. ALS, two pages both sides, 5 x 8, personal letterhead, March 23, 1946. in part: “My dear Frank, We have now had two beautiful calm warm restful days at sea. Today however it is cold wet and foggy. I like to think of you returning to your lovely little house in the …and having yourself a gay and restful holiday, released from the exhausting Churchill family…Your hospitality and...devotion to Winston are times I shall never forget….Excuse my writing but the boat is beginning to roll…We have had a bit of rough weather but I don’t mind it tucked up on a deep chair…We look forward to seeing you in London this summer….” In fine condition, with expected age toning, rusted paper clip impression to upper left corners.
