Description

At the height of McCarthyism, Reagan makes a motion in a 1952 SAG meeting that, “component members notify their members where to go to receive information as to whether their names appear on any lists.”

DS, six pages, 8.5 x 11, May 28, 1952. Records of the meetings of the Motion Picture Industry Council, on which Reagan served as secretary. The minutes cover committee reports, including an Explorations subcommittee report by Reagan, on a so-called American Legion list of unemployable actors in the industry with Communist front records and interaction with the Patriotic Services Committee to help clear the actors. Reagan goes on to make a motion stating “The MPIC adopt the recommendation of the ‘Explorations’ Sub-Committee that the patriotic services committee be appointed to function permanently, as outlined in report, and component members notify their members where to go to receive information as to whether their names appear on any lists.” Signed on the last page in blue ballpoint by Reagan. In fine condition, with files holes to left edge. COA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
